Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! I have a limited number of spots available at my studio located at Treasure Valley Arts in Meridian. I try to keep my enrollment size between 20-25 students to maximize my ability to connect with each cellist.

  • I am available to teach online lessons to intermediate and advanced students.

It’s imperative that I’m able to see every angle of a new cellist’s posture to ensure proper development of their technical foundation and posture. Due to this, I don’t offer online lessons to beginner cellists.

  • There is no such thing as “too old” to learn. As long as you’re willing to put in the time and patience, I would love to teach you. About 1/3 of my current students are adults. I’ve had students ages 6-60+!

On the other hand, I do prefer to wait until kids are at least 6 to start lessons. Exceptions may be made in special circumstances. Children under age 12 must have parents or guardians that are willing to be attentive both in lessons and during at home practice.

  • During the school year I offer lessons at a monthly flat rate. This rate is found by dividing the total cost of lessons offered from August — May into 9 equal monthly payments.

During the summer lessons are offered “à la carte” due to many students going on vacation and my own commitments.

  • I pride myself on being positive, honest, and always speaking with intention. I do my best to make lessons something to look forward to, not dread. Lessons are a safe space for us to make mistakes, ask questions, try, succeed, and sometimes fail. It’s important for me to meet students where they are and not strive for perfection. Like humans, music isn’t meant to be perfect. It’s part of what makes playing an instrument so special!

  • I love playing for all types of events. Weddings, corporate, art galleries, celebrations of life, open houses, etc. Contact me to discuss more!

  • My teaching style is primarily based on the Suzuki Method, along with a wide range of supplemental repertoire and pedagogical techniques. I love playing and listening to all types of genres. Classical, jazz, folk, rock, metal, alternative, and pop! I sincerely enjoy learning about what my students like to listen to and incorporating that into our lessons.

  • I’m going on my 18th year of cello playing! I started in my middle school orchestra program in the West Ada School district. I was extremely lucky to have excellent orchestra and private teachers who still inspire my teaching every day.

  • So many places! Boise has an amazing live music scene. You’ll find me playing at Candlelight, with the Boise Phil, different local bands, private events, and wherever else my cello takes me. Instagram (@avacamilo) is a great way to follow along with my musical adventures!
